Nancy Drew has been taking over our Wednesday nights since the fall. The show isn’t on right now, but when will it be back in 2020?
We’re going a second week without a new episode of Nancy Drew. We’re not even getting a rerun of the series right now. It’s led to many questions about when the show is going to return.
The planned date is Apr. 8. We’ll get our favorite female sleuth in the usual timeslot, following a new episode of Riverdale. At least, that is still the perceived plan.
Right now, there are a lot of things up in the air. CW shows have shut down production due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Not all shows are going to get a full season, and we’re not 100% sure how Nancy Drew has been affected by all this.
The series was originally ordered for just 13 episodes. As it showed success to start the season, The CW ordered seven extra episodes to take the total to 22, a full-season order. Did the show have time to film all 22 episodes? Many shows have shut down production around the 18th or 19th episode. There’s a chance that we’re only going to get 19 episodes of the season instead.

And this could lead to a change in return date on The CW. Right now, we know that Supernatural is heading into an unexpected hiatus. That’s the only show confirmed right now, but it could apply to other TV shows on the network.
The CW press site isn’t much help right now to figure things out. The schedule for the week starting Apr. 6 has been removed, likely due to the issues with current plans since there are a limited number of episodes left. The promos for Nancy Drew Season 1, Episode 17 haven’t changed though, so with any luck, the show is definitely back on Apr. 8.
Nancy Drew is expected to return with all-new episodes on Apr. 8 at 9/8c on The CW.
