Is The Rookie renewed for Season 4?

We’re waiting on the renewals of many of our favorite TV crime dramas. What about The Rookie on ABC? Is Season 4 going to happen?

Starring Nathan Fillion, The Rookie tells the story of a middle-aged man who decides to restart his career. He becomes the oldest rookie with the LAPD, and initially faces trouble from his sergeant. Eventually, Sgt. Grey warmed to John Nolan, realizing the guy wasn’t just training to be a cop for the sake of it.

Along the way, we’ve got to meet various other rookies and training officers. The show started off mostly as a dramedy but has brought some serious topics over the course of the three seasons, including a look at systemic racism and police brutality.

Nolan is still a rookie, though. While his two friends have completed their training and are now cops, Nolan remains a little behind. It won’t be for too long, though. There is hope that Nolan will complete his training by the end of The Rookie Season 3.

Has The Rookie been renewed?

ABC is slowly making decisions about the future of various shows. Right now, The Good Doctor and Big Sky are among the renewals on the network. There is still time, but The Rookie hasn’t been renewed just yet. It also hasn’t been canceled.

Is there going to be a Season 4 of The Rookie?

It’s hard to say which way ABC will go with this, but there is some hope. The Nathan Fillion-led series currently sits in ninth place out of 15 scripted shows in terms of the demo, according to TV Series Finale. It sits in third place when looking at just the total audience!

The show is performing relatively well for a Sunday night show. While the overall ratings have dropped from the second season, there’s not too much to worry about just yet. We could get another season out of this show.

When does the new season of The Rookie start?

It looks like ABC is planning on sticking to the normal TV schedule for the 2021–2022 schedule. That means we’re looking at a fall start for Season 4 if it does happen.

The Rookie Season 3 airs Sundays at 10/9c on ABC. Catch up the following day on Hulu.
