The fall is here, and that means we’re ready for our favorite shows to return. When will The Rookie Season 6 premiere on ABC?
It’s that time of year when we see our favorite shows return. We’re ready for fall 2023, but there is a lot of bad news.
The Rookie Season 6 is not on the list of September premieres. Okay, but that means we only have to wait until October, right? We know that some shows don’t come back until the start of October, and that has been the case for the cop dramedy in the past.
Well, this is where we have more bad news. The Rookie is not returning this fall.
When will The Rookie Season 6 premiere on ABC?
Wait, what? Why isn’t the show coming back this fall? Why would ABC hold it for the midseason?
This is something that ABC warned us of at the May Upfronts. Not only is The Rookie not on the fall list, but no scripted series is. That includes some of the big hitters like Grey’s Anatomy and The Good Doctor. Everything is being held for 2024.
This has nothing to do with how the shows performed in the 2022–2023 season. This is all to do with the current strike action.
At first, it was just the writers, but ABC had a feeling that fall wouldn’t happen the way we all wanted it to. While CBS and NBC set regular fall schedules, ABC opted for a strike-proof one. It was the right move. The actors joined the writers on strike in July 2023 and that’s the way it has been since. While the unions are in negotiations, there is no sign of anything moving forward at this point.
Will we get a January 2024 premiere? That remains to be seen. It all depends on when the current strike action comes to an end.
