When NCIS: New Orleans goes on its winter break, it’s not returning at the same time as its fellow shows. When it does return, it’s on a new night.

NCIS: New Orleans will head on its winter break in just a few short weeks. When that happens, don’t expect the show to return with its sister shows. Season 6 won’t be back until February, and that comes with a night change.

CBS announced its midseason return dates for the New Year, with some major changes to its lineup. The biggest for NCIS fans was that FBI‘s spin-off, FBI: Most Wanted, would take over the Tuesday night timeslot. It follows its parent show, likely to give it the best shot of success on the network.

That means a move for New Orleans, which will be Sundays after NCIS: LA. However, it comes with a delay. CBS wants to see Madam Secretary finish its run. The final season is just 10 episodes long, so there will be a few weeks of the political drama before New Orleans takes over the post-LA timeslot. The date is officially set for Feb. 16.

This is the first time New Orleans has moved from Tuesday nights. When it kicked off its production, it aired in the 9 p.m. slot, taking advantage of the post-NCIS slot. It then moved to the later slot of the night, but still kept a good boost from NCIS and then the second show, initially Bull and then FBI.

However, the ratings have been faltering as of late. The show currently sits in ninth place out of all 20 CBS shows in the demo. It’s in sixth place when it comes to the total audience. This is good and does mean that the series is unlikely to be canceled, but CBS sees the benefit of the timeslot for a newer show.

We will likely see a dip in the Live + Same Day ratings when it moves to Sunday. However, I still don’t think this will be a problem for the show’s renewal. After all, LA has made it to 11 seasons!
