2. SWAT

The last network show on the list is SWAT, the CBS drama that is definitely suffering from its timeslot. It’s also suffering from being just a standard cop drama in a world where we want something exciting and new. Too much of SWAT has relied on being a reboot of a popular TV series of the past.

There are just a few things that will save the series. One is the CBS All Access viewership. Maybe the show will head there for a fourth season. The other is the DVR ratings. If CBS sees that it’s a timeslot problem and not a show problem, we could see the series renewed. However, CBS will want to make some room for new shows and not many shows are coming to a natural end this year.

Final verdict: Things aren’t looking good for SWAT.

1. Watchmen

I hate to put Watchmen on the list. The series was excellent and there’s a lot of potential for the future, but HBO is yet to make a decision on it. I would have thought if the show was renewed, that decision would have been announced by now.

The problem for the fantasy series, which did have a crime drama element to it, is that it seemed to wrap everything up in a neat bow. We got answers to our questions by the finale. There was just that one moment at the very end, and this type of show would work without an answer to it. We’re left to our imaginations.

Final verdict: I have a feeling Watchmen will be canceled despite its success.
