Charles Michael Davis is joining NCIS: New Orleans as Agent Quentin Carter. What do we know about the character so far?
We now know that Charles Michael Davis is joining NCIS: New Orleans. Now it’s time to look at exactly how he’ll join the team and what we know about who Agent Quentin Carter is.
Carter Matt reports that Davis is joining as a series regular. That means he’s most likely going to join the team, filling the void that has been left by Lasalle. And sure, he can’t replace Lasalle, but he will take Lasalle’s spot on the team. It’s important to make that note. Lasalle isn’t coming back and we need to give this new character a chance.
Pride is choosing him

Something important to note is that Agent Carter isn’t coming on board just because he’s been assigned by some never-seen-before higher-up. Pride chooses him and asks for the transfer, which means there’s a skillset that Pride knows is invaluable to the team.
From the sound of the character, Carter is someone who does great work but annoys people, which leads to him helping and then moving on quickly. Hopefully, the personalities of everyone will blend together and he can tone down the annoying side of him to stick around for a while to give us a chance to get to know him.
It sounds like he’s a little like Torres on NCIS. Torres can certainly wind people up and did take time to get used to, but he’s now an integral and valuable member of the team.
Carter will challenge the team
Don’t expect NCIS: New Orleans to bring someone just like Lasalle in. That just wouldn’t work. We’d constantly wish for Lucas Black back. So, instead, Quentin Carter is going to have a vastly different personality.
According to EP Christopher Silber, Carter is going to challenge the team. Is that with his personality? Possibly. It sounds like Carter is someone who has a lot of ideas. He wants to make whatever team he’s working with excellent, but that can mean getting people out of their comfort zones.
It’s not necessarily a bad thing to make changes, either. However, Carter will need to find a way to gel with people. I have a sense we’ll see something like Grey’s Anatomy when Owen Hunt was first introduced. He came in with military ideas but ended up annoying everyone. When they went to him with their complaints, he asked for help getting used to the civilian setting again. It was a perfect way to introduce this character and get to know him.
Not joining right away
It’s not clear when Davis is joining the series. It doesn’t look like it’s right away when the show returns from its break. We get that first episode tonight, but it looks like we’re waiting until at least Episode 14 of the season, maybe later.
That gives us a few episodes to see why a new member is needed on the team. Right now, there are only four agents in the field. The team needs another to avoid being stretched too thin.
