Special Agent Quentin Carter isn’t going to last long on NCIS: New Orleans if he doesn’t change his attitude. How long will the team give him to adapt?

NCIS: New Orleans introduced the new team member, Special Agent Quentin Carter. His attitude isn’t one that will gel with the rest of the team just yet, but could we see that change? Just how long do we give him on the team?

At the moment, he isn’t going to last the month with the team. He’s rubbed almost the entire team the wrong way. However, Pride sees something in the guy. He knows that there’s something good within him; something that the rest of the team members can’t offer. After all, they are all there for their specific skills and personalities.

The team certainly needs to give Carter a chance. That’s not easy considering the reasons Carter is joining the team, but they still need to give him a chance. Just how long does that chance need to last?

It will take time to find his feet

One thing we can get from Carter is that he doesn’t stick with a team for long. It’s not that Carter gets kicked out of the team, but that he asks for transfers before the team can push him out entirely. He knows that he rubs the people the wrong way.

It sounds like he does that intentionally, though. He doesn’t want to be part of a family, suggesting that something has happened in the past to cause this mentality. He makes it easy for people to dislike and distrust him.

And yet, there’s a quality to him. He cares about people. He wants to work and close the cases. He will tackle some of the biggest cases going and find a way to solve them, making it clear that he is about the job. And that’s not something to push aside.

There is a chance for him to work with the team. He needs to find his feet first, and he needs to be offered the chance to do that.

I give him a month

With the current attitude that he has, I give him a month to annoy the team and get himself kicked out. I also give him a month for fans to decide whether they’re going to like him or not.

One thing I hope is that NCIS: New Orleans fans are open-minded enough to give Carter a fair chance; to allow him to grow as a character. While we love Lasalle, Lucas Black was ready to leave the series. The show gave him a big shocking exit, but one that gave us a chance to say goodbye through the flashbacks with the other team members. We saw Pride step over a line to make sure he got vengeance (not really justice) for Lasalle.

There’s no bringing Lasalle back from the dead. NCIS: New Orleans does embrace the supernatural elements of the city, but bringing a dead character back would be jumping the shark. And writing in that Lasalle faked his death would make the emotions we felt saying goodbye worthless. I’d actually be really angry at the writers if they decided to pull that stunt. So, with Lasalle unable to come back, we need to embrace the change.

But that means we need a character we can root for. While Carter came in with an arrogant attitude and an unwillingness to bond with his new team, there is something there. He has a heart and he wants the best for the case. So, without the attitude adjustment, I give him a month. I have a feeling we’ll see some change before then.
