Don’t expect holiday-themed episodes for Blue Bloods

Blue Bloods Season 11 is focusing on being timeless

Are you just ready for your favorite TV crime dramas to return? Of course you are. Sadly, they are delayed, and now we’re learning that many of the shows won’t have holiday-themed episodes. That’s certainly the case for Blue Bloods Season 11.

Arguably, Blue Bloods doesn’t always have a holiday-themed episode. None of the TV crime dramas specifically have holiday-themed episodes, but more often than not, you’ll see a Christmas tree in the background or there will be some Halloween decorations. The idea is to remind you that these shows are set in the same timeline that we’re living in, and when it comes to rewatching, you know the timing they aired.

But things are changing this year. Blue Bloods is going for timelessness, according to Carter Matt.

It makes sense. Nobody knows when the episodes will actually air. Even if they were ready now, CBS hasn’t shared when the fall schedule is going to begin. And Blue Bloods Season 11 hasn’t started filming yet.

Major events could still be touched on

While the show won’t offer holiday-themed episodes, there can still be a focus on real events happening on the show. NCIS: New Orleans is setting itself in a pandemic world, bringing something that affected everyone into the series because it would affect the characters. SWAT is looking at the Black Lives Matter protests and how they will fit into the show—a show that as arguably always included systemic racism.

Blue Bloods could follow suit. TV crime dramas need to focus on events that are happening, bringing awareness to situations. With characters from different generations of the same family, Blue Bloods has the opportunity to show how things used to be and how they need to change.

The show can also focus on major fictional events. Now is the time to get the creative juices flowing in the writers’ room and create a major event that takes up a few episodes.

Next. Blue Bloods still needs to fix Linda's death. dark
