Someone else is framed as a dirty cop in The Rookie Season 3 premiere
The Rookie Season 2 left us with a major cliffhanger. John Nolan was left looking at money and other incriminating evidence, suggesting that he’s the dirty cop Armstrong says he is. We know that isn’t the case, but we have had to wait for The Rookie Season 3 premiere to see if anyone else believes him.
The problem is he’s not the only one implicated as a dirty cop. The only way Armstrong could make this look any bit believable was by framing someone else.
Who else?
Harper, of course!
Harper is suspended in the investigation
Harper wakes up to find Chen and Bradford knocking at her door in The Rookie Season 3 premiere. Quickly learning that Nolan has been framed as a dirty cop, she knows immediately what this means. She’s being framed, too. She doesn’t seem all that concerned, knowing that it’s the only way Armstrong would be able to sell Nolan as a dirty cop.
Percy West has no choice but to suspend Harper. However, it looks like he doesn’t believe the stories Armstrong is telling. He is angry at Harper’s actions, though. She should have come to him with the evidence she and Nolan had collected on Armstrong, even if it was weak. He can’t do his job if people don’t trust him.
Internal Affairs is often painted as the bad guy; the one trying to prevent good cops from doing their jobs. However, The Rookie Season 3 is trying to show another side. They do root out the bad cops, but they need help to do that.
So, Harper is now benched for the time being. Nolan is the one who needs to deal with this, and he’s going undercover to make it look like he’s desperate enough to turn to the crime family because of his lost job.
Armstrong remains one step ahead in The Rookie Season 3 premiere
Right now, Armstrong is one step ahead. Well, he was.
Lopez figures out where Armstrong’s go bag is hidden (yes, in his wife’s grave!). That plan is over, so Armstrong has to do something different. He turns to the crime boss and makes it clear that Nolan would never turn. He’s too good of a person to even consider that, so anything Nolan is telling him is a lie.
Armstrong doesn’t last long, though. He ends up dead at the end of The Rookie Season 3 premiere. The only good thing is Nolan captures the head of the crime family alive, meaning there is a chance to clear his and Harper’s name.
We’ll just have to wait until next Sunday to find out if he manages it.
