The competition on SWAT Season 4 lost a competitor

When SWAT Season 4 started, Tan and Street joined in on the competition Chris had entered to join Luca in Germany. During Episode 7, Tan made a big decision to pull out of the competition.

It’s not that he doesn’t want to win or that he’s scared of losing. He made the decision for what he believes is the good of the team and his own life.

But was it the right call? Judging by his actions during the episode, it probably was.

Tan disobeyed orders on SWAT Season 4, Episode 7

When it comes to obeying orders, Tan is usually the guy Hondo can trust. Tan is the one who uses his head. In fact, during the episode, Tan stopped Hondo trying to run through flames to get the guy they were after.

By the end of the episode, Tan did something completely out of character. While it was with good intentions, he put his life at risk disobeying Hondo’s orders.

Yes, it did lead to catching the guy, but there would have been other ways to do it. Tan knew afterward that what he did was the wrong thing. While many shows would have opted for a boss to say “you shouldn’t have done it, but well done,” Hondo stuck with the “you didn’t wrong” line.

The competition got to Tan’s head

There was a point I worried the competition would get to Chris’s head. However, it’s Tan who has struggled.

During SWAT Season 4, Episode 7, he finds out that he’s not got good odds to win the competition. Luca can’t help him out with this, either. Tan needed to find a way to stand out, and the actions he took on the call were to help him stand out. Instead, he stood out for the wrong reasons.

By letting the competition get to his head, Tan couldn’t do his job safely. He knew there would be a risk to others if he continued.

In the end, he made a grown-up decision. While he may not like it, he did make the right decision dropping out of the competition.
