Jackson looks set to stand up to the blue line on The Rookie Season 3, Episode 3

“Silence is complicity, sir,” is a line Jackson says in The Rookie Season 3, Episode 3 promo. He is ready to stand up against the blue line, but what will this mean for his career?

Something to remember is Jackson is still a rookie. There are a few days left of the training process, and he could jeopardize everything if he stands up against Doug Stanton. However, he needs to do what is right and getting rid of the bad cops is what is right.

It’s not going to be easy. He’ll need the support of those around him. The question is whether he’ll have the support of the most important person in the precinct: Sergeant Grey.

As another Black cop, Jackson should have Grey’s backing. However, Grey has been through years of seeing bad cops do their job. He’ll know the discrimination many face for standing up to the blue line. There’s a chance he’ll be too afraid to do anything. We saw this storyline on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but Captain Holt eventually agreed that doing nothing was becoming part of the problem.

Can Jackson help to bring change to the precinct on The Rookie?

Jackson already doesn’t like Stanton. He saw how Stanton jumped to conclusions in the previous episode and turned to Bradford for (terrible) advice. However, things get worse on The Rookie Season 3, Episode 3.

Stanton arrests the wrong suspect and then goes up against the suspect’s family. Doug doesn’t see people but the color, and he sees the color for all the wrong reasons. Jackson realizes that he needs to do something about it.

“But this is the way it’s always been.” I know there will be a few uttering that sentence. Just because something has “always been” like that doesn’t mean it’s right. Did people saying “it’s always been like this” when it came to slavery have it right? Certainly not. What about when people saying “it’s always been like this” when women were the property of their fathers and husbands?

Jackson is going to do the right thing, but it’s not going to be easy. There are going to be a lot of cops who see that he’s doing the wrong thing trying to bring change, and there will be a lot of people (many of whom like Stanton) fighting against the change.

Can The Rookie do this storyline some justice?
