When it comes to a strong-willed woman, her relationships with men are often cold. That’s not the case for Walker’s Micki.

Micki and Trey have one of the best relationships on TV right now. The writers have managed to avoid the cliche problems between them. Of course, we’re still only four episodes in, but so far I have high hopes for the couple, and I hope the writers don’t mess this up.

It looked like the writers might go with cliche storylines at first. Micki looked like she wasn’t ready for her military boyfriend to go the civvy route and move in with her. The relationship looked like it could be doomed before it even got started, and then she acknowledged her fears.

There’s nothing wrong with acknowledging fears. So many people say that fear is a sign of weakness, but acknowledging fear is something strong to do. And she did that and decided she was willing to face that fear and take the risk.

That was just the start of this positive relationship.

Micki doesn’t put up walls around Trey

One of the best things about their relationship sit that Micki doesn’t put up walls. This is common with strong-willed women. They have a bubble around them to avoid getting hurt or to avoid showing “weakness.”

During the most recent episode of Walker, we got to see that in full. Micki puts up walls at work, but she doesn’t stop herself from being fully committed and interested in Trey’s life.

Sure, there were times she was distracted, but she owned those moments. She acknowledged her distractions and focused on Trey. When it came to the distracted “good luck” for his interview, most writers would have Micki not even realize she did it. The Walker writers opted for something different. Micki immediately realized what she did and gave a proper “good luck.”

At the end of the episode, she hugged him tight, thanking him for his help in solving the case. And she was genuinely happy to see him at home, and who wouldn’t with just the cape around his neck?

Trey listens and doesn’t judge on Walker

Let’s go back to that distracted “good luck.” Most people would be hurt by the dismissive way Micki said it, but Trey brushed it off. He looked over to see what she was doing, realizing that she may have figured something out with work. Not once did he say something, understanding her instead of judging.

Micki did end up apologizing, and the whole thing ended up being forgotten about. Trey knows his girlfriend, and he wants her to be her.

To do that, he’s 100% supportive of her. He can see why she has the walls up, but he also understands her heart. He knows how to make her smile and how to make her feel wanted and even needed.

This is a guy who doesn’t want to change his girlfriend. He wants her to be strong-willed, opinionated, and good at her job, and he gives her praise without it being hinted at. At no point yet have we seen him feel threatened by her job, her personality, or the walls that she can sometimes try to put up around people. He’s a progressive guy we need more of on TV.

Trey loves Micki, and she loves him. Please, Walker writers, don’t change them!
