Missing the BAU? Criminal Minds is officially returning. It’s one of the revivals added to the Paramount+ lineup. Here’s what we know so far.

After 15 seasons, Criminal Minds came to an end in 2020. It turns out that it wasn’t a permanent end. Paramount+ went on a news spree, sharing all about its upcoming lineup including a revival with the BAU.

For those who are behind in the news, Paramount+ is what CBS All Access will be rebranded to now that Viacom and CBS have combined. There will be a few revivals and reboots happening, with the crime drama one of them. This is as well as a true-crime series involving a real FBI profiler for those who love the grittiness of real crimes.

We don’t know a lot about the new series just yet. However, Deadline shared a little news of what’s going on right now.

The Criminal Minds Season 15 cast in talks to return

There have been many actors on the series over the years. For the revival, the cast from the final season is those in talks to return. Not everyone has signed on just yet, but there is hope that they will all find a way to be involved.

However, it’s worth noting that some actors have already moved onto other projects. For example, Daniel Henney has landed a leading role in The Wheel of Time on Amazon Prime Video.

Executive producer/showrunner Erica Messer is also in talks to helm the scripted revival.

There will also be some new characters added to the mix.

A serialized approach to the revival

While the series mostly covered one case per episode, the revival is going to go a different route. It’s going to follow the final season storytelling in part, tracking a single case for the entire season. It’s not clear if there will be the odd procedural case copying the 15th season format, but it sounds unlikely.

The serialized route has become extremely popular over the years, especially as streaming services have become more popular. The seasons tend to be shorter, making a serialized format far easier. It could work well for the Criminal Minds revival, delving deeper into the psyche of the serial killer and even the BAU members involved.
