Kung Fu is one of the upcoming new shows on The CW and is something for TV crime drama fans. Here’s all we know about the Kung Fu premiere date, cast, and more so far.

Recent years have focused a lot on reboots and revivials. Kung Fu is no different, based on the 1970s series of the same name. This time, we’re getting a gender swap reboot, a little like The Equalizer.

With the right team, genderswap reboots can work well. The benefit of this is that the 1970s series isn’t even as popular as The Equalizer‘s original series or movies that followed. The new CW series has a chance to stand out on its own.

We know a little of what to expect so far. We’ll be sure to update the post as we get more information.

Kung Fu premiere date

The CW announced the spring premiere date for the new series. It will premiere on Wednesday, April 7.

The show is taking the Riverdale timeslot for three months, with Riverdale Season 5 returning in July 2021. Nancy Drew will remain in the hour afterward.

Kung Fu cast

Olivia Liang stars as Nicky Shen, a Chinese-American woman who heads to an isolated monastery on a life-changing journey. When she returns to San Francisco, the town is overrun with crime and corruption. The Triad has taken over, and Nicky needs to do what she can to protect her family.

Kheng Hua Tan and Tzi Ma will star as Mei-Li and Jin Shen, Nicky’s parents. Shannon Dang is Althea Shen, Nick’s sister.

As you can tell, the cast is diverse and inclusive, which is something The CW has focused on considerably over recent years. The network still has a lot of work to do, but this is a better start than many other networks.

There isn’t a trailer for the series just yet. This will likely arrive in the next month or so. We’ll share as soon as it’s available.

Kung Fu synopsis

As mentioned in the cast section, the series follows Nicky, who returns home to her family now at the mercy of the Triad. Nicky, her sister Althea, and her sister’s fiance, Dennis, will need to help protect their family and the town.

They will also get help from Evan, Nicky’s ex-boyfriend and the ADA in San Francisco, and Henry, Nicky’s new love interest. It’s The CW. Of course there’s a love triangle!

While all this is happening, Nicky is also on the lookout for the assassin who killed her Shaolin mentor, Pei-Ling. This assassin is now targeting her, so she better watch her back!

Kung Fu premieres on Wednesday, April 7 at 8/7c on The CW.
