What will Melanie do now after Snowpiercer Season 2, Episode 6?
Snowpiercer Season 2, Episode 6 caught us up on Melanie’s story. The ending was nothing she expected. What will she do next?
Caution: There are major spoilers in this post from Snowpiercer Season 2, Episode 6.
We spent the whole episode with Melanie in the research center. Not only did we see the trouble she had just starting out, but we saw her way of dealing with isolation. We also get some time in the past as we saw why (and how) she chose to leave Wilford on the tracks seven years earlier.
By the end of the episode, Melanie was ready to head back to the train, but there were immediate signs of problems. Ben didn’t respond to her calls out to him. It could have meant there were communication problems, but it was soon clear there was something else going on.
When return date came, Melanie raced to the tracks to see the train going way too fast. As Snowpiercer left her, she saw Alexandra calling out to her from the back. Something has definitely happened on the train, but there’s no time for Melanie to figure out what that is.
Melanie will need to fight to survive on Snowpiercer Season 2
We’ve already seen the trouble Melanie had to survive just to the end of the month. It didn’t help that her rations were buried under the avalanche, but she was counting on only being out there for a month. With the rats to eat, she could survive long enough to get the data out.
And now she’s left out in the cold. She’ll need to find a new way to survive, and she has no idea how long that will be for. Will Snowpiercer ever even come back for her?
I think we’ll see Melanie face her demons in the coming episodes. She may even get to the point where she considers cannibalism or suicide, both things that the researchers formerly at the base opted for.
The Layton in Melanie’s head said he wouldn’t judge her for cannabilism, and realistically, I don’t think anybody would considering her position. The Wilford in her head said there was a beauty in suicide. And again, I don’t think many would judge her considering how much despair she’ll feel not knowing what’s going on with Snowpiercer and whether she’s going to be left in the Rockies forever.
However, I think being left behind may end up being a blessing in disguise. Now, in the real world, she may be left behind forever. This is the world of TV, and eventually, I’m sure Snowpiercer will return. Just as Melanie is ready to kill herself, she’ll get a message over the radio from someone there to help her. Isn’t that the usual way TV works for the drama?
Before it comes to that, there’s a chance she’ll create more of a climate model. Or maybe she’ll find out there’s something more with the place the rats live. Maybe she’ll start to witness some warming up in certain parts of the world, which could help give her hope that recolonization of the Earth is possible.
