The Clickbait finale brought us all the answers we needed. Who did kill Nick Brewer and why? Was it just some big mistake?

Caution: There are spoilers for the Clickbait finale in this post.

Clickbait took us on a wild ride. We suspected the wife, the mistress, and even the brother of one of the mistresses. There were all sorts of secrets that came out throughout the series, including Nick being a serial cheater.

In the penultimate episode, we got what we thought were answers. Well, we got some answers. We found out that Simon, the brother of one of Nick’s mistresses, was responsible for the kidnapping and the video. That’s when more truths came out.

Nick wasn’t a serial cheater. He hadn’t been chatting with any of the women online. Someone had catfished the women, and there was only one person he told about the affair.

Of course, we all assumed it was the best friend. Everyone thought that, including Pia. She went to Matt’s computer for the doctored photos. They were all there, but wasn’t this a little too easy?

One thing we did learn was that Simon didn’t kill Nick. Simon had let Nick get away, and Nick went to the person who did the catfishing.

Dawn was the catfisher on Clickbait

It turned out Dawn, one of Nick’s colleagues, was the catfisher. She was in an unhappy marriage with a man who was more interested in his trains than spending time with her. So, she used a dating profile that she did see on Nick’s phone when setting up his computer to stop feeling so lonely.

It suggests that at some point Nick considered cheating but didn’t go through with it. Dawn created multiple profiles on various dating sites and started talking to the women online. It made her feel good, but eventually, she was caught out.

Her husband caught her and left, viewing it as cheating. It was that night she “broke up” with Sarah, leading to Sarah killing herself and Simon looking to get revenge on Nick. With Sarah noting down everything “Nick” said about his marriage, Nick realized that Dawn had to be the catfisher.

He went to her house the night Simon released him to confront her. However, Dawn’s husband hit him over the back of the head and killed him.

As all the truths came out, Kai ended up at Dawn’s house. Dawn and her husband had to cover their tracks and took Kai to their cabin. Dawn’s husband was more than willing to kill to keep the secrets safe, but fortunately, the police got to everyone in time. Kai got back to his family, Dawn’s husband was killed by police, and Dawn was arrested.

The Brewer family could move on at the end of Clickbait. The statements in the video were false after all. Yes, Nick had a temper but he wasn’t violent toward women, and he was never responsible for Sarah’s death. Nick never cheated on Sophie, although her affair was real. She would have to live with being the unfaithful one, but at least it wasn’t the reason for Nick’s murder.
