Where do Mabel’s loyalties lie on Only Murders in the Building?

Mabel’s secret about knowing Tim Kono is out on Only Murders in the Building. There’s one big question about her still. Where exactly do her loyalties lie?

Did Mabel really think she could keep her connection to Tim Kono a secret for long? She had to know eventually someone would know who she was back in the day. However, she was probably hoping the people who knew her wouldn’t know Charles and Oliver.

On Only Murders in the Building Episode 4, the secret came out. Oliver’s son remembers her from back in the day, and not because he was her friend. Instead, she remembers her hanging out with her “Hardy Boys” group, including Tim Kono.

It’s a big secret to keep, although it’s clear that none of the characters have really been all that honest. Charles has not lived at the Arconia alone for 28 years considering the story he told Jan.

With this secret out, it’s going to cause some friction between Mabel and the men. However, there’s a bigger question for us as the audience. Where do Mabel’s loyalties lie?

How long did Mabel think she could keep a secret on Only Murders in the Building?

Mabel could have shared that she knew Tim Kono back in the day. She could have told Charles and Oliver that there was a bit of a personal stake in this, even if it was just to find out who killed her former friend. Instead, she decided to use Charles and Oliver’s access in the building that she couldn’t get to solve the murder herself.

She had to know her secret wouldn’t stay secret for long. What was she going to do when it came out?

Mabel isn’t just out to solve Tim’s murder, though. When she returned to the Arconia, she had another thing on her mind. It was all about Zoe’s death all those years ago. She wanted to figure out why Tim had lied back then, and that’s likely been the focus of her search for his murderer now.

Is it possible that her loyalties are purely about figuring out why Tim lied so many years ago, but now she’s going to have to prove her loyalty to Charles and Oliver? It’s time for more secrets to come out.
