Just like that, another problem is solved. Sanchez is out, but just how did the team manage it on SWAT Season 5? And who is now leading 20 Squad?

Oh yes, the Sanchez problem is dealt with. At the end of the previous episode, Hondo set it up so Luca would overhear Sanchez’s words, and then Luca spread the word to the others. Of course the team was going to side with Hondo. They knew Sanchez was up to everything from the beginning.

Well, okay, Luca knew Sanchez was up to something from the beginning. It just took time for everyone else to see it.

But how would the team deal with the problem? And who is now in charge of 20 Squad?

Deacon has a job offer for Sanchez on SWAT

Deacon figures that getting Sanchez to choose to move on from SWAT is the way to handle the situation. Deacon and Luca know that Sanchez is going after a governor job, but it requires Hondo to quit first. Of course, Hondo is not going to just quit.

Deacon and Luca need to figure out how to get Sanchez to move on voluntarily, so Deacon suggests some big security detail job. It would mean a lot of extra money and a great benefits package. Sanchez turns it down, saying that he wants to be close to his kids.

It’s only a matter of chance that they figure out a way to get Sanchez out. Deacon overhears an anthrax story again, and Luca realizes that Sanchez is taking credit for something he didn’t do. Armed with that, they make it clear that they’ll out him. So, Sanchez decides to take the security detail job after all.

What about his kids? They’re nearly in college, so he’ll deal with that fall out.

Hicks announces a new leader

With Sanchez out, it means there’s an opening for 20 Squad team leader. Who will take that spot? Hicks notes that usually it would take time for the brass to discuss, but Hicks knows the perfect person.

Hondo is back in charge. It didn’t take long to get him back where he belonged.

Did the brass sign off on that? Hicks made it clear that he didn’t ask for permission. He’ll put out the fire, admitting he should have stood up for Hondo earlier than this. Better late than never.
