6. Miss Scarlet and the Duke

What it’s about: Miss Scarlet and the Duke follows Eliza Scarlet. After her father’s unexpected death, she’s left almost penniless. She doesn’t’ want to marry, despite that being the best option for the time. Instead, she wants to continue er father’s detective agency, and she regularly calls on William Wellington, an old friend, to help her since he’s a Detective Inspector at Scotland Yard.

William is known as “The Duke,” hence the title of the series. We get to know the backstory between the two characters while watching them solve crimes together.

Why you need to watch it: The series is a great series for those looking for something fun but also dark at times. We get a great mixture of crime and romance. After all, there is clearly some romantic tension between Miss Scarlet and her Duke.

This is one of those period crime dramas with a woman ahead of her time. She’s not interested in doing anything that women are supposed to do in the time period. Instead, she’s focused on her career, but she is open to love if it comes her way.
