John Nolan will be back in action very soon, and he is becoming a training officer. What can we expect in The Rookie Season 5 when it premieres?

When it comes to crime dramedies, The Rookie always gets our attention. The series could have completely lost its premise in the fourth season. The rookies we’d come to know were graduating their probationary year, and that could have meant focusing on their careers instead.

While we have seen some of their career progression, the season also kept the premise on rookies. Aaron Thorsen came into the picture, and Nolan decided he wants to be a training officer. This allows for another rookie to come into the story.

What’s going on during The Rookie Season 5? Here’s what we know about the season so far.

The Rookie Season 5 premiere date

We don’t have to wait too long for the season just yet. The Rookie Season 5 will premiere on Sunday, Sept. 25. It is keeping the 10 p.m. ET/PT timeslot that we’ve become used to.

Usually I’d say this makes sense. Why fix something that isn’t broken? However, the spin-off The Rookie: Feds could have worked well in the hour slot after the OG series. Instead, Feds is getting the Tuesday 10/9c timeslot, and that puts the spin-off at risk immediately.

The Rookie Season 5 cast

We’re expecting the cast from the fourth season to return. That means we’ll see more of:

  • Nathan Fillion as John Nolan
  • Alyssa Diaz as Angela Lopez
  • Richard T. Jones as Wade Grey
  • Melissa O’Neil as Lucy Chen
  • Eric Winter as Tim Bradford
  • Mekia Cox as Nyla Harper

Shawn Ashmore as Wesley Evers

We should also see more of Jenna Dewan as Bailey Nune.

We also know that Tru Valentino has been upped to series regular for the fifth season, meaning there’s going to be more Thorsen in the series.

The Rookie Season 5 promo

ABC is still to release a promo for the season. This could happen any time as of now, so we are keeping our eyes out for it.

The Rookie Season 5 synopsis

There isn’t an official synopsis for the premiere just yet. That is likely to come as a promo for the season drops.

What we are expecting is to see Nolan as a training officer. It sounds like he has a female rookie to take under his wing. Of course, our eyes are going to be on Chen and Bradford. A kiss finally happened between them in the Season 4 finale, but it isn’t a smooth road just yet. After all, there are still complications with their positions in the police department.
