Kylie Bracknell and PJ Byrne talk Piper and Mack in Irreverent
Kylie Bracknell and PJ Byrne play Piper and Mack in Irreverent, two characters essential in the story. We sat down and talked to both about the characters.
I love all the characters in Irreverent. After all, they’re all so important to the story and bring their own personalities. My favorite has to be Piper. So, getting the chance to speak to Kylie about the role was amazing.
And yes, Mack is awesome too. He brings this good-guy-turned-bad element to the story, and we talk about why he wanted this role and what the character means to him.
Kylie Bracknell shares the importance of Piper in Irreverent
Piper is an important character, and not just for Paulo’s development. She is a great character for young girls to see on screen. What was it about this character that made her want to be in the show and in this particular role in the first place?
"“I love the wittiness, I love the unpredictable qualities. It’s written so well…It’s a dream role for me…When this particular audition piece came up, it spoke to me so strongly, I was like ‘I want this role.’ And I haven’t really felt that before.”"
What was it about Piper?
"“She’s multilayered, driven, career-minded, a great example for women (so far!)…I just love the comedy.”"
Piper is the one completely out of the loop when it comes to what’s going on with Mack and Paulo. What was that like for Kylie?
"“She doesn’t have a clue, no. She’s trying to work this guy out, but she’s been around some quirky characters…In a way, the new rev kind of fits in…She’s a thinker, not a speaker, so we get to relate to what her thoughts are.”"
PJ Byrne shares about Mack in Irreverent
Mack is definitely awesome in his own way.
"“There are certain scripts that speak to you. There are certain characters you’re like ‘Oh, I love this guy.’…I always loved this show called M*A*S*H…at times it’s wildly funny and at times it’s heartwrenching, and that’s what this show offers.”"
This is a series that reminds us that everyone is going through a hard time. A strong community can help everyone.
It’s not often that we get to see a reverend suffer a crisis of faith, but that’s what Irreverent offers us. What was it like playing that take for this character?
"“That’s what was cool. It sounds like he wanted another woman or had a drug problem…but he thought he’d done everything right and his wife leaves him…He is at a low-point in life, and anything that he comes across, he’s going to grab…So he takes $1.6 million!”"
