Is Big Sky season 4 happening? (Has Big Sky been renewed?)

After 13 amazing episodes, Big Sky season 3 comes to a close on Jan. 18 with the season 3 finale on ABC. It’s been another amazing season with yet another incredible central mystery filled with twists and turns.

As season 3 comes to a close, fans are understandably beginning to look ahead to the future with a lot of questions about the show’s fate on ABC. While it once was easy to predict and keep up with which shows might be canceled and which might be renewed, the always-changing television landscape has made it difficult for audiences to keep track of when shows will be returning or ending.

With the season now complete, let’s look ahead to the future… specifically whether it still has one.

Is Big Sky canceled?

Here’s the good news, Big Sky has not been canceled and the show remains very much in contention for renewal at ABC. It’s unclear when ABC might decide the show’s fate, but we expect a decision will be made no after than May 2023 ahead of the network’s annual Upfronts presentation.

Is Big Sky season 4 happening?

At this time, ABC has not canceled or renewed Big Sky which means the show’s future is very much up in the air.  With the season finale airing on Jan. 18, it’s likely ABC will announce the show’s fate in the weeks ahead after it gets the chance to look at how the show performs on streaming outlets.

Given the show’s ability to pull in big guest stars and status as a consistent performer, there is a lot of hope that the show will return for a fifth season. However, ABC could just as easily cancel the show as well if it bases its decision strictly on the show’s linear ratings. We say this because the show currently ranks as ABC’s least-watched drama of the season by those measures.

When could Big Sky season 4 premiere? (predictions)

If ABC orders Big Sky season 4, it’s highly likely the show will return sometime in Fall 2023 as part of ABC’s 2023-24 fall lineup. Since its premiere in November 2020, the show has been a staple on Wednesday nights in the fall so it’s possible ABC will keep that formula in place for next season should the show return.
