Will Jensen Ackles be in Big Sky Season 4?

Fans of Big Sky have a lot of questions following the Season 3 finale, including if the show gets a fourth season. But a big one is whether Jensen Ackles will return as Beau Arlen.

The Season 3 finale left off with Beau saving his daughter and closing the case of the Bleeding Heart Killer. He was then faced with the choice of staying in town as its sheriff or heading back to Houston with Emily.

The closing scene had Beau and Jenny (Kathryn Winnick) bonding over drinks and showing some sparks between them. Talking to TV Insider, Jensen Ackles revealed he’s yet to make a decision, given the show hasn’t even been renewed yet.

"“I don’t know. They haven’t even picked up the show yet for Season 4, so I don’t know if anybody’s coming back for Season 4 yet. That’s above my pay grade. But if they do decide to pick up a Season 4 — which I would hope they would, I think the show’s really great, and I think it’s got a lot of story left to tell — I don’t know. They had me for one season. They were probably like, well, let’s just bring him in for one, and we’ll see how it goes, and then we’ll go from there. So they’re waiting to hear what happened with the show, and then they’ll probably talk to [showrunner] Elwood [Reid] and try to figure out what to do with the characters, those that are returning and those that they want to return.”"

As of yet, ABC has not given any signs of whether Big Sky will return or not, even if the cast is hopeful.

What can become of Beau in Season 4?

If Season 4 does occur, it’s possible the show will continue the trend of each season having new guest star characters alongside Jenny and Cassie (Kylie Bunbury). The show can simply write Beau off by explaining he went back to Houston with Emily.

However, Beau could decide to stay, and a new season can explore his past, from his relationship with his brother to what happened in Houston that drove him to Montana. It could also delve into a possible romance between Beau and Jenny.

“There’s a lot to unpack there with his backstory and what happened in Houston with his partner and how that affected his marriage and why he and Carla split up. There’s certainly a lot to dive into,” Ackles told TV Insider.

For now, the fate of Big Sky itself is still unknown, yet fans are hopeful that it and Ackles will return to ABC next year.
