Could CSI: Vegas be losing another of its top veterans? That’s a question fans are asking, as the latest episode indicated Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger) might be considering moving on from the CSI lab.

The first season of the revival of the hit series featured the returns of Gil Grissom (William Petersen) and Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox), coming to aid the Vegas crime lab in a tough time. At the end of the season, the pair departed, satisfied the lab was in good hands.

Season 2 opened with former CSI Catherine Willows returning, having left years ago to run the casino her late father had given her. However, Catherine revealed she had actually been pushed off the board of directors when she tried to investigate the disappearance of a casino worker. After various twists and turns, Catherine exposed the killer but elected to stay with the lab.

Catherine has also been trying to repair her relationship with her estranged daughter Lindsey (Katie Stevens). In the latest episode, “When the Dust Settles,” Catherine was connecting with granddaughter Hannah when she was called in for a case and brought Hannah with her.

Naturally, Lindsey threw a fit over her daughter being taken to a crime scene, which affected Catherine in the case involving a woman awakening from a years-long coma. The woman was concerned over her murdered sister and the family connection haunted Catherine.

At the end of the episode, Catherine decided to take some time away from the lab. She sent a message inviting Lindsey and Hannah for a Hawaiian vacation and after a few moments, Lindsey agreed.

Catherine did assure Maxine that she just needed some time away to connect with her family and would be back. Maxine told Catherine it would be fine and to take all the time she needed

So far, there has been no word of Marg Helgenberger leaving CSI: Vegas, as the actress appears to be quite happy about returning to her role as Catherine.

Also, Helgenberger shared an Instagram photo of herself on set with former CSI star Eric Szmanda, who will reprise his role as Greg Sanders later this season. It’s quite unlikely the show won’t have Greg and Catherine working together on a case.

Thus, Catherine is just taking a break for a bit but will be returning to solve more mysteries and hopefully after healing her family rifts.
