Law & Order: SVU preview: Why is the team a detective down in a tough case?
Law & Order: SVU is finally back after a long break with an episode showing the horrors of Internet dating while the team is a cop down.
The last time Law & Order: SVU aired, Benson was aiding a mentally-addled man (Emmy winner Bradley Whitford) who wrongly believed he murdered his wife. Benson was able to prove he was innocent and catch the real killer.
More significant was the subplot as Velasco was hauled into questioning over his claims to a suspect on having killed a man in Mexico. Velasco claimed it was just a story to sway the guy, but Fin wasn’t so sure. Eventually, Velasco admitted it had been a friend of his who killed the guy, which drove Velasco to escape the gang life.
Benson was unhappy that one of her detectives had been covering up a murder all this time and told Velasco he had to make it right by tracking down his friend and see justice done at last. That means the unit is going to be less one cop as they handle what could be a tricky case.
Check out a preview and synopsis for Law & Order: SVU Season 24, Episode 16
“The Presence of Absence” has the team pulled into a case of a widow who makes the mistake of trusting the wrong Internet dating site. Meanwhile, Muncy is a bit thrown that Velasco, who had been mentoring her on the squad, will be absent for a bit.
It’s unclear if Benson calls in a new detective to fill Velasco’s spot as this should push Muncy into a bigger role in the unit. Regardless, this should kick off a big new case for the SVU team that once more handles the seedy underbelly of New York.
"“An Internet dating site becomes the source of terror for a young widow. Muncy struggles with Velasco’s absence.”"
