SWAT is planning a season finale so huge, it’s going to take two nights to properly fit it all in.
The reboot of the 1970s show has been a reliable success for CBS, even if it’s bounced around the schedule a bit over its run. It was on Thursdays for the first two seasons, then moved between Sundays and Fridays in Season 5. This year, it’s settled into an early Friday slot and done well there.
SWAT was not among the various shows CBS gave renewals to and there’s now a question of whether it will get a seventh season or not. Between the salaries of the cast and CBS cutting some other shows (like NCIS: Los Angeles), it’s unsure if this series can survive unless it’s with some budget and/or cast cuts.
As it stands, SWAT is still ready to roll on for a bit and fans can expect a big season finale event.
When is the SWAT Season 6 finale airing?
CBS confirmed that SWAT will have a special Season 6 finale, split into two parts. Part 1 airs on Friday, May 12, with the conclusion on Friday, May 19.
CBS hasn’t announced details, but a likely plot point is Nichelle finally having her baby and Hondo adjusting to fatherhood. Ten to one, some big case is going to distract Hondo with the question if the series will attempt some cliffhanger or a finale that could serve as a series finale just in case it isn’t renewed.
However it happens, the SWAT finale is going to be a big two-part storyline and probably leave the team in some sort of shakeup that hopefully leads into a seventh season.
Right now, the show is on a small break for March Madness but will be back before the end of March.
