Warning: This post contains spoilers for the FBI crossover

The FBI crossover was a huge event linking all three teams in a major case to stop a terrorist attack in New York. In the process, it left one agent fighting for their life and making viewers wonder if she’ll be leaving the show itself.

The crossover began on FBI: International as the Fly Team was investigating the kidnapping of an American architect. They were surprised by the arrival of Jubal and Nina, who told them this was connected to an undercover op Scola was running in New York.

It emerged that a Belasarus general had lost his daughter and several top generals in an attack using American equipment. Blaming the U.S., the general was out for revenge by plotting to blow up John F. Kennedy Airport.

While tracking the terrorists, Nina was shot and left in critical condition in Rome. Isobel and Jubal made the mistake of deciding not to tell Scola, worried it would distract him from the case. So when Scola found out, he was irate at both of them for keeping this quiet.

After the team stopped the attack, Scola flew to Rome to be at Nina’s side. Thankfully, she and the baby were okay.

Is this the last of Nina on FBI?

One thing to remember is that Shantel VanSanten has never been a full cast member of FBI. The actress (known for roles on One Tree Hill and For All Mankind) had joined for a one-episode appearance in Season 4. When Missy Peregrym went on maternity leave, Nina was made her temporary replacement but stepped back when Maggie returned. The storyline was that after becoming pregnant with Scola’s child, Nina transferred to the safer white-collar crime division.

So far, there is no confirmation of VanSanten leaving the show. Indeed, the scene of her and Scoa exchanging “I love yous” shows there is plenty left to do with the relationship. It’s likely Nina will be absent for a while as she recovers and even the possibility she may not return at all in Season 5.

However, Season 6 can have Nina closer to giving birth and John Boyd has hinted there is more of Scola deciding on their future. So while it may be a while before we see her again, Nina is likely to be a part of FBI for a while to come.
