The crime Jiro was accused of wasn’t obvious in Accused Season 1, Episode 11. What did he face trial for, and was he guilty?

One thing I love about this series is that we don’t know the crime our protagonist is on trial for until later in the episode. We see the story play out, and we’re left trying to guess whether it’s murder, abduction, negligence, or something else.

With Jiro’s story, all we knew that he was a man looking to protect his brother. He could see that his brother was in danger at the adult care facility he was in, but there was little that he could do. He ended up with one mission: to keep his brother safe, and he was willing to do that in any way he could.

That eventually led to an incident that nearly took the like of his brother. Here’s a look at what happened to Jiro throughout the episode.

What was Jiro on trial for in Accused Season 1, Episode 11?

There were a few thoughts throughout the episode. It looked like it could be murder and then it looked like it could be assault. In the end, it was negligence.

Jiro initially believed that another resident was harming his brother. That resident did have a criminal past and was on parole, but Jiro went the wrong way to get proof that this man was dangerous. He asked his wife to search the DA database, which was an ethical violation.

It turned out that he was wrong, anyway. It was Leon, one of the facility’s staff members. Jiro only learned this by chance. He went to his brother’s room before visiting hours to leave a Bento box he made. He found his brother beaten and tied to the bed, and that’s when Leon walked in. Jiro decided to get his brother out of the facility and beat Leon at the same time.

At his home, Sam accidentally fell into the pool and drowned. That led to fears that Jiro would be charged with manslaughter. It turned out that Sam survived, but Jiro was charged with criminal negligence because he took Sam out of the facility when he shouldn’t have. It doesn’t sound like the facility or Leon pressed charges for the assault, likely because of what had happened to Sam.

Was Jiro found guilty?

Jiro was offered a plea deal. Sarah, his wife, wanted him to take that deal because it would prevent Jiro from serving jail time. Sarah could see that the jury was not sympathetic to Jiro’s case.

Well, Jiro ended up going on the stand to share why he didn’t take the plea deal. If he did that, he wouldn’t be able to take his brother in, and he didn’t want that to happen. This whole situation proved that he should have stepped up as the caregiver for his brother after their mother passed away. He wanted the chance to correct that wrong to keep his brother safe.

We then cut to the family home. Sam was there with Jiro and the whole family. It looked like the jury decided that Jiro wasn’t criminally negligent and Jiro got to right the wrong in the first place.
