Is a new episode of Magnum PI on NBC tonight? (April 9, 2023)
Magnum PI is taking off this holiday Sunday, but will be back fast for the last episodes into the midseason finale.
Since being rescued by NBC after its unexpected cancellation by CBS, the reboot of the 1980s Tom Selleck series has been doing well. It’s been sparked by the new romance of Magnum and Higgins, the pair balancing their relationship alongside solving mysteries.
The show has been on a roll since its two-part Season 5 premiere, with new episodes every Sunday. That even includes airing opposite the Academy Awards to show they want to keep fan interest going. However, the series is taking an overdue break this Sunday, April 9.
An obvious reason is that it’s Easter Sunday with NBC perhaps figuring viewers will be busy with family events. Thus, this Sunday will be a rerun of the Season 5 premiere.
However, the show will be back the following week with the penultimate episode before the midseason finale on April 23. There’s no word yet on when the second order of 10 episodes will air.
Just a note that The Blacklist is still airing a new episode tonight. This show doesn’t have to rely on the ratings as much as it is the final season of the series, so this isn’t too unusual.
What’s coming when Magnum PI returns?
The next episode, titled “Out of Sight, Out of Mind,” has Magnum and Higgins teasing a possible engagement. However, the plotline will focus on Higgins going undercover at a psychiatric hospital and the toll may be getting to her.
So while Magnum PI is taking a deserved break, fans should be ready for the final episodes of the first half of Season 5 with a lot of excitement to come.
