SWAT cancelation reversed: Series picked up for final season
Just days after canceling SWAT, CBS has reversed the decision. Season 7 will happen, and it will be the final season of the series.
The weekend brought some bad news. Monday brought us good news. It turns out that fans speaking out against the cancellation of a top show can help with the reversal of a decision.
SWAT Season 7 is now officially happening. Shemar Moore, who has been upped to executive producer for the season, has thanks fans for their support saying “we did it.” CBS had already confirmed that it was the outpouring support from fans that led to the reversal of the decision, and Moore recognized that immediately.
SWAT Season 7 is going to be the final season
Of course, there is a little bit of bad news with this good news. SWAT Season 7 is going to be the last.
When CBS reversed the cancellation decision it came with news that it would only be a 13-episode final season. The decision to bring it back is to ensure that the characters and storylines have some closure. Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment, and Katherine Pope, President of Sony Pictures Television Studios both said that the audience deserves the closure, and we have to say that we agree.
Of course, the writing work will now be delayed. The WGA writers strike continues, so nothing can happen on the series until the strike is over. It could be part of the reasoning behind a 13-episode final season. This could air in the midseason without too much of a problem trying to stick to the usual TV schedule.
The final season will air in the 2023-2024 season. At least we can now go into the final two episodes without worrying about any cliffhangers or a lack of closure.
SWAT airs Fridays at 8/7c on CBS. Catch up on Paramount+.
