Is True Lies renewed for Season 2? (Is True Lies canceled?)

It’s that time when shows “on the bubble” find out their fate on the networks. CBS has reached a decision on True Lies. Will the TV version of the spy movie hit survive to a second season? Find out here!

Adapting the 1994 James Cameron movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, True Lies opened with Harry Tasker (Steve Howey) and his wife Helen (Ginger Gonzaga) handling suburban life with their kids. The pilot had Helen shocked to discover that for 25 years, Harry had been working for Omega Sector, a top-secret spy branch of the U.S. government. Helen was soon pulled into joining the team and she and Harry balanced spy work with their normal lives.

The series co-stars Erica Hernandez, Mike O’Gorman, Annabella Didion, Lucas Jaye and Omar Miller. It was created by Matt Nix, premiering on CBS on March 1st.

While CBS promoted the show heavily, it’s suffered in the ratings, with its highest being 3.2 million viewers for its premiere and steadily declining. There had been hopes that the show might be able to survive on its mix of action and romance, so will there be a Season 2?

Is True Lies Season 2 happening at CBS?

Sadly for any of its fans, CBS has confirmed that True Lies is indeed canceled. This was part of an announcement that included the cancellation of fellow freshman drama East New York and the surprising renewal of SWAT, which CBS had canceled last Friday.

The cancellation is one of the least surprising of the season as the ratings simply didn’t justify CBS continuing to produce an expensive show featuring plenty of action and stunt work every week. The show will conclude with a two-part episode on May 17 that will now act as the series finale.

It may be disappointing for fans to see True Lies ending, but the ratings were one challenge the Taskers couldn’t overcome.

True Lies series finale airs on Wednesday, May 17 at 9/8c on CBS and streams on Paramount+ the following day.
