The latest Law & Order episode has fans wondering if, once more, a big cast change is coming. Could one of the key Law & Order cops be departing? Here’s what we know.

Caution: This article contains SPOILERS for Law & Order Season 22, Episode 21

In “Appraisal,” Detective Frank Cosgrove (Jeffrey Donovan) was celebrating his 50th birthday and reflecting on his life. He mentioned how a former partner was now running a security firm in Florida and making a tempting offer for Frank to join him.

Cosgrove and partner Jalen Shaw (Mehcad Brooks) were investigating the disappearance of an art gallery owner and found the body of a murdered artist. That led them to a billionaire who had just ripped off the life savings of thousands of city employees. Cosgrove pushed for Nolan Price (Hugh Dancy) to charge the guy with both murders, despite the one woman’s body not being found.

Cosgrove and Shaw were shocked to learn that the other woman was still alive and in hiding as she saw the murder. They went to find the guy who attacked Cosgrove and shot him. Luckily, he was okay but affected by the near-death experience.

The case was rough as that witness was too afraid to talk, and the defendant offered to give back the stolen money to get out of this. Cosgrove complained to Price about how he nearly made his wife a widow and if they really were making any difference.

Is Cosgrove leaving Law & Order?

Cosgrove ended up taking the stand to testify, hearing the witness confess to what she saw. He also stood up for questioning on how the defendant shot him and proof of his guilt. That led to the man being found guilty.

Seeing the guy go down, Cosgrove told Shaw that they were making a difference. When Shaw asked about the job offer, Cosgrove told him, “I’m exactly where I need to be.”

With no word on Jeffrey Donovan’s thinking of leaving the series, it seems Cosgrove is still dedicated to the job. The actor doesn’t have many upcoming projects that could interfere with Law & Order filming, and thus, this brush with death is only going to strengthen Cosgrove’s spot on the show.
