SWAT Season 7 will not premiere on CBS in May 2023
The SWAT Season 6 finale airs tonight, Friday, May 19. Of course, eyes are on when SWAT Season 7 will premiere now that we know it’s happening.
It was touch and go for a while. CBS originally canceled SWAT after six seasons due to negotiations with Sony not going the way they wanted. Then the fans rioted on social media with Shemar Moore behind them to bring the show back. It worked, withCBS renewing the series for a seventh and final season.
That means we’re not going into this episode worrying about a cliffhanger. The writers have time to craft conclusions for everyone. We just won’t get to see anything new for the rest of the month. SWAT Season 7 is definitely not going to premiere in May 2023.
When will SWAT Season 7 premiere on CBS?
As of right now, CBS plans to bring the series back in the fall. While we don’t have exact dates, we often see CBS premiere shows in the last couple of weeks of September when they’re part of the fall lineup.
There’s just a lot working against that right now. It’s all about the WGA writers strike, and there’s a potential SAG strike coming in June. All of this could have a knock-on effect for production. If the scripts aren’t ready, production can’t start. It could mean a delay to the fall season, and CBS is ready for that should it happen.
The final season is only going to have 13 episodes. It will remain on Fridays to kick-off the night of dramas on the network. In fact, the entire Friday night schedule will remain the same as this year. We just don’t have a date of return just yet.
SWAT is available to stream on Paramount+.
