Are new episodes of the Law & Order shows tonight? (May 25, 2023)
The Law & Order shows seem to have wrapped up for the season, but are there any episodes left of the popular franchise? Find out here!
Caution: This article has SPOILERS for the season finales of Law & Order, SVU, and Organized Crime.
The Law & Order shows had some pretty dramatic season finales. First, on Law & Order, the detectives were called in when a U.S. Senator was shot at his daughter’s wedding. The manhunt led to a teacher who’d survived a school shooting and was upset the senator had voted against a gun control bill.
The trial was complicated by how the man was defended by McCoy’s own daughter Rebecca (played by Sam Waterston’s real-life daughter Elisabeth). Also, Price was affected, given his experience with a mass shooting and feeling sympathetic for the defendant.
In the end, Price managed to get a conviction, which seemed to drive a wedge between McCoy and his daughter for a powerful finale.
Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime finished their seasons with a special crossover event. The two teams worked together to track the owner of a website that hired people to commit brutal attacks. The owner, a troubled young man, put out a hit, and Benson and Stabler that they barely survived.
The man was arrested, but it was bittersweet as he shot Whelan (Brent Antonello), leaving him paralyzed. Whelan died in the hospital, devastating the team, especially Jet.
Meanwhile, Muncy decided to accept a promotion joining a DEA task force, leaving SVU a cop down. The crossover ended with Stabler and Benson taking on new cases and bidding farewell.
That was a big way to end the seasons, so when does Law & Order return?
Are the Law & Order shows coming back in 2023?
These were the season finales for all three shows, so there will be no new Law & Order episodes for a while. Reruns of all three series will be shown on Thursdays throughout the summer.
So far, NBC’s schedule will have only Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU returning in the fall. Law & Order: Organized Crime is being held until midseason and will have only 13 episodes. It’s also possible there may be more cast shakeups for the series.
There is the complication of the ongoing Writer’s Guild of America strike, which may last into the summer and thus delay the production of shows. If the WGA strike continues for a while, it’s possible Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU may not make a September premiere date.
For now, it’s going to be a summer wait for at least two Law & Order series to return and longer for all three shows to be back together.
