What is The Rising on The CW about?
The CW is taking a new approach this summer by featuring shows acquired from across the ocean. Among them is The Rising, which originally aired in the U.K. in 2022. What’s ahead in this unique supernatural crime series?
The plot of The Rising may be reminiscent of the recent Paramount+ series School Spirit (although The Rising came first). Based on a Belgian series, it focuses on Neve Kelly, a teenager who wakes up in a nearby lake. As she comes home to hear her mother calling the police about her missing, Neve slowly realizes she’s dead.
After her body is found, Neve’s spirit sticks around to watch the fallout and discovers she was murdered. With her memories of the event muddled, Neve is determined to find out who killed her, using her spectral abilities to get answers. But she may not like discovering what people really thought about her or the secrets even her loved ones are keeping.
Throughout the search, Neve finds a way to connect with one person among the living who may be the key to finding out who killed her and if that allows her to move on.
Who stars in The Rising?
The show doesn’t have many famous names, although a few will be familiar to British TV viewers. Clara Rugaard plays Neve with Emily Taaffe as her grieving mother, Maria. Rebecca Root is Diana Aird, the detective investigating the case with others playing the various people in Neve’s life, many of whom may be suspects.

When does The Rising air on the CW?
The eight-episode series already wrapped up on Sky TV in 2022. There were plans for a second season, titled Risen, only for production to be shut down in March 2023, two months before it was to begin. However, if a CW airing proves popular, the sequel series may go through.
The series will premiere on The CW on Monday, May 29 at 8/7c, with new episodes airing every Monday and available on The CW App.
With its mix of crime thriller and supernatural drama, The Rising may be a sleeper series for viewers to enjoy on the CW this summer.
