Adrian Monk may have been a brilliant detective, but he was battling his own demons. His beloved wife, Trudy, was killed when a car bomb detonated. After her murder, Adrian’s obsessive-compulsive symptoms worsened. He was terrified of germs, elevators, and heights. And Monk had his assistant at the ready with disinfecting wipes.
Adrian lost his job as a homicide detective due to his many phobias. But he still assisted the San Francisco Police Department following his leave from the department. With some help from his first assistant Sharona Fleming, and his former boss, Captain Leland Stottlemeyer, Monk continued to work his crime-solving magic.
After Sharona moved back to New Jersey, he hired single mom Natalie Teeger as his new assistant. She served as both Adrian’s assistant and support system. All so the quirky detective could focus on solving cases.
Still, he had to confront his anxieties as he worked on the cases assigned to him. Meanwhile, viewers at home were guessing the identity of the culprit as he solved the case.
Number of seasons of Monk
Monk ran for a total of eight seasons. The show debuted in 2002. Viewers saw Adrian at his most fragile and heartbroken when the show premiered.
The series finale aired in 2009. In the end, Adrian discovered who murdered Trudy. Of course, with a big assist from his late wife. She left him all the details in a Christmas gift. Her grief-stricken husband never opened the present after her death.
Adrian reached out to Trudy’s daughter once that mystery was solved. This new relationship gave him hope and served as a feel-good end to the series.
