NCIS Season 21 is officially happening, and now we’re ready to see the episodes. Will we get new episodes this year, or do we need to wait until 2024?

We are into that annoying summer hiatus. We know that the actors need breaks, and we know that production takes time. That doesn’t mean we like the wait.

However, usually, we know that the wait is relatively short. We know that we’ll get new episodes in September or October at the latest. Is that going to be the case this year? There are a few things affecting the premiere date this year, and we could find that we have to wait until 2024.

When does CBS want NCIS Season 21 to premiere?

We should note that CBS doesn’t really want to wait too long for the series to return. It’s a strong performer for the network, so it’s not surprising to see the series in the fall lineup again. The idea is for NCIS Season 21 to airs on Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT again.

The question is when. With the current strike action taking place, it’s not clear. Production simply can’t start until the strike action is done. Then there’s going to be about a month to wait for the scripts to be ready for filming. We could be looking at a late 2023 premiere right now, but if the strike goes on for longer, we could have to wait until 2024.

We just can’t make a call right now. This isn’t the fault of the writers. They’re not being paid fairly right now and the entire landscape is changing with streaming platforms removing content that was supposed to offer writers royalties—and lower royalties than would happen for broadcast shows because the content was supposed to always be available. Until a fair deal happens, the writers will remain on strike.
