After some back and forth, we now know that SWAT Season 7 is happening. The big question is whether we’ll get episodes in 2023 or not.
After some long negotiations, CBS opted to cancel SWAT. Then there was a U-turn just days later, and we found out that there would be a seventh and final season. This season is only going to have 13 episodes, which is enough to wrap up the storylines that need wrapping.
Of course, when we hear 13 episodes, we start to think that it will be a midseason show. Will we really need to wait until 2024 for new episodes of the series? Will the writers strike push the show into next year anyway?
When does CBS want SWAT Season 7 to premiere?
There was some good news at the Upfronts for those who want more of Shemar Moore and the cast right away. SWAT Season 7 is part of the fall schedule. Despite only having 13 episodes, CBS wants to kick off the TV season right with the series starting Friday nights of drama.
That should mean a September start date, right? Well, this is where we have some bad news. September is highly unlikely at this point. Even October is pushing it. If we’re going to get the episodes in 2023 as CBS wants, it’s going to be in November or December.
If this writers strike goes on for longer, we could end up seeing a move to 2024 instead. This would make a lot of sense for the network as a whole. It can set up a more secure fall schedule, which the advertisers will want. Then in the new year, we can get all our scripted shows back. This is something ABC decided and FOX didn’t even announce its schedule, suggesting a 2024 date for its scripted shows.
SWAT is available to stream on Paramount+.
