Is The Rising renewed for Season 2? (Is The Rising canceled?)

The CW has brought us a new supernatural crime drama from Britain to check out. It’s all about The Rising. Now fans want to know if there will be a second season or not.

If you love supernatural thrillers, The Rising is certainly a series worth checking out. The British show follows Neve, a ghost who realizes that she was murdered. If it sounds a little like School Spirits, that’s because the basic premise is the same. Neve wakes up with no memories of who killed her, and she wants to get to the bottom of it.

The twists and turns aren’t the same, though. The Rising is a little grittier than School Spirits, but it’s still just as fun and the twists are certainly worth watching for.

As we get closer to the end of the season, you’ll want to know if there will be more to the story. Is The Rising renewed for a second season?

The Rising Season 2 is not happening

At first, there were plans to bring a second season. It was going to be called Risen. However, Digital Spy confirms that two months before production was set to start, Sky decided to cancel it. This wasn’t a victim of the writers strike as the UK writers aren’t bound by the WGA movement for UK shows.

So, what is it? The full explanation hasn’t been given. It is worth noting that a lot of networks in the UK are struggling financially, though. Even reality shows are being abruptly canceled.

There is a little bit of good news, though. The second season was set to follow different characters. This was setting up an anthology series, which Sky has decided again. So, it does sound like The Rising Season 1 finale is going to work well as a series finale. While you’ll miss the storytelling, it doesn’t sound like there’s a cliffhanger to worry about. You’ll find out who killed Neve.
