Why was The Rising canceled by Sky?
Despite initially renewing the series, Sky has now canceled The Rising after one season. Why has this happened, and does this mean a cliffhanger ending?
Fans of The Rising were happy to see that there would be a second season of the series. Then Sky disappointed everyone. Just months before production was set to start, Sky canceled the show, according to Variety.
Does this mean there’s no point in watching the season finale? Will we end up with another cliffhanger that will remain forever unanswered? Why did Sky decide to cancel The Rising after initially renewing it? Here’s what we know.
Why did Sky cancel The Rising?
There aren’t any clear reasons as to why the series was canceled. Variety says there were a “number of reasons” for this decision. We’re sure to hear that some of them were financial. After all, a lot of the UK networks are struggling financially at the moment. We’ve even seen Channel 4 cancel reality programs, and they’re usually cheaper to make than scripted ones and help during financial troubles.
The cancellation came ahead of production starting. For a network to effectively”unrenew” a show, it does suggest that there were problems behind the scenes, whether with the creative team or the financial aspect of things. There are severe financial penalties for canceling at this stage.
The first season was affected by pandemic delays. The writers strike won’t affect this UK series, but the delays of the first season may have hampered things for the series to move forward.
The good news is you can still watch The Rising series finale without worrying about not getting answers about who killed Neve. The series wrapped everything up in the first season. In fact, the second season was titled Risen and was set to tell a different story with new characters like an anthology series.
The Rising is available to stream on The CW App.
