Murdoch Mysteries is certainly a period crime drama everyone loves to watch. Will there be more to the story? Is Season 17 going to happen?

The United States isn’t the only country to have some crime dramas to make it to double digits. Canada has a period drama that once nearly saw cancellation but was saved by CBC. It’s all about Murdoch Mysteries.

The series may be set in the late-19th and early-20th centuries, but it has some modern-day elements to is. William Murdoch is an inventor as well as a detective, and he uses his inventions to help him solve crimes.

The 16th season just came to an end earlier this year. That always leads to a lot of questions about whether there will be more to the story. Will there be a 17th season? It wasn’t up to Acorn TV as to whether this show would be renewed, despite that being where to watch it in the U.S.

Is Murdoch Mysteries Season 17 going to happen?

The good news is the Canadian network, CBC, loves how well the series is performing. It has been renewed for a 17th season. In fact, that season has started filming already in Canada. As this is a Canadian series, it isn’t affected by the strike action currently happening.

This is another long season. There will be 24 episodes to tell the story, and we’ll see what’s next in the world of detective work in the early 20th century.

When could we expect to see Murdoch Mysteries Season 17? It looks like CBC is planning to air the season in fall 2023. With episodes already filming, this isn’t too unreasonable. What about in the U.S., though? It probably won’t come to Acorn TV until spring or summer 2024 once the full season has aired on CBC.
