It’s going to be a long summer with the current strike action. Is there any chance that we’ll get to see Law & Order Season 23 in 2023?
When the May Upfronts happened, NBC wanted a fall that looked as normal as possible. This was despite the writers strike just starting. There was hope that the studios would negotiate with the writers in good faith to get the writers back in their rooms and for production to start in July as normal.
Well, everything has changed since then. The actors are now also on strike. Even if the writers did get back to their rooms, production wouldn’t be able to start until after the actors strike ends. So, that puts a lot of fall content on the line.
When will Law & Order Season 23 premiere on NBC?
We don’t yet have any idea of when the shows could premiere on broadcast networks. The earliest we’re likely to see Law & Order Season 23 at this point in January 2024. That’s assuming everyone goes back to work in the next couple of months. However, nobody is talking to each other, with the studios reportedly trying to hold out until the writers need to go back to work for financial reasons.
Until the writers and actors go back to work, we just can’t say when shows could premiere. We could end up waiting until close to the spring, and the networks will need to figure out what to do while they wait out the negotiation period. With it being up to the studios now, there’s little the broadcast networks can do.
We’ll be sure to keep an eye on how things are going. One thing is looking more likely: we’ll get shorter seasons, which means all characters can stick around for each episode.
Law & Order is available to stream on Peacock.
