While it’s sadly coming to an end, Nancy Drew has been one of the CW’s more notable fun shows. What looked to be a straight adaptation of the famous teenage detective transformed into a wild series involving supernatural elements and a fun supporting cast. As its final season unfolds, fans may be wanting other series that match the Nancy edge.

While there are a lot of shows about private eyes, there aren’t as many focused on females and/or with a strange supernatural edge to them. However, there are a few shows that can appeal to Nancy Drew fans, from the great detectives to unusual crimes.

These five series are just up the alley for anyone who’d like a female detective investigating inhuman crimes.

5 must-watch shows for Nancy Drew fans

Veronica Mars

An obvious choice for any Nancy Drew fan is this beloved cult series. Kristen Bell became a star playing the titular role of the high schooler working for her PI dad. The first season has Veronica balancing run-of-the-mill murder cases with solving the murder of her best friend (Amanda Seyfried), with further seasons adding more wild cases.

Bell is the reason to watch with her smarts, sharp humor and drive that make this show a wonderful mix of noir and dark humor. Canceled after three seasons, it managed to get a movie and then a fourth year on Hulu while it’s obvious how much Nancy Drew borrows from Veronica Mars and vice versa.

Veronica Mars Seasons 1-4 are streaming on Hulu.

The Hardy Boys

It makes total sense that with a Nancy Drew show out there, there’d be one for the Hardy Boys too. Rohan Campbell and Alexander Eliott are Frank and Joe, working for their cop-turned-private-eye dad in a small town. The pair soon realize something bizarre and supernatural is happening in the town that they have to stop.

Sound familiar? At least this series does a different spin on the relationship between the brothers and their friends as they try to stop this coming disaster and some crazy turns. The third and final season is about to hit and is likely to bring this saga to a close as a proper companion for Nancy Drew.

The Hardy Boys Seasons 1&2 are now streaming on Hulu. Season 3 premieres on Tuesday, July 26.

Lockwood & Co

A new entry in the long list of Netflix shows canceled too early, this series is set in an alternate world where a massive uprising of ghosts affected society. So you have a 2023 without Blu-Ray players, cell phones, or the Internet. Ruby Stokes plays a young woman who is able to talk to ghosts but is denied entry into an agency hunting them. She thus hooks up with the eccentric Anthony Lockwood as a freelance private eye.

The mix of mystery and horror is prominent as the group tries to figure out what the dead want, leading them to bigger mysteries. That includes the discovery of a more dangerous mystery that can lead to a full ghost invasion. It’s too bad it didn’t continue, as this supernatural mystery thriller was a fun show.

The Irregulars

Another cut-too-short Netflix series, The Irregulars is inspired by the pack of youths who aid Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. The teenagers are a fun pack working together, each with their own skills and secrets as their work slowly moves into strange supernatural cases.

The stakes are ramped up in the eighth episode as the team realizes they’re dealing with a menace that can tear London apart and have to overcome their differences to stop it. The first season wrapped up well, yet it’s a shame the show didn’t continue as its mix of teen investigators and the supernatural was perfect for Nancy Drew fans.

Haven

This sci-fi series puts a unique spin on what looks like a typical formula. An FBI agent (Emily Rose) heads on a case to the titular small Maine town. She soon discovers the place is home to “the Troubles,” a plague of supernatural events. Based on a book by Stephen King, the show naturally has a lot of wild twists and turns.

Eventually, Rose becomes a member of the police department to get more involved in the cases as she realizes she has a deeper connection to the town. The plots are nuts, but Nancy Drew fans will like a strange supernatural show set in a coastal town to check this series out.
