TV fans have worried that the strikes hitting Hollywood will ruin the fall TV season. However, NBC’s newly released schedule reveals there will be some original scripted fare, including The Irrational. When does this new Jesse L. Martin crime drama arrive this fall?

To say the networks are in panic mode right now would be an understatement. It was bad enough when the Writers Guild of America went on strike in May, meaning a likely delay for new scripted shows in the fall. But then, in mid-July, the Screen Actors Guild joined the WGA on strike, putting production in Hollywood in limbo.

This left the networks scrambling for anything to put on TV this fall. As it turns out, NBC has an advantage as its newly released schedule includes a few new scripted shows, including the premiere of The Irrational.

How is The Irrational able to premiere this fall?

Ordered in late 2022, The Irrational stars Jesse L. Martin of Law & Order and The Flash fame. He plays Alec Mercer, a world-renowned expert in behavioral science who can figure out often irrational behavior. Mercer becomes a consultant to everyone from the police to government agencies, using his skills to figure out odd behavior and defuse a crisis.

After ordering the show to series, NBC immediately began production in anticipation of a possible strike. This means the show wrapped up just before the WGA strike began and thus has an entire first season in the can and is ready to go.

The Irrational is set to premiere Monday, Sept. 25, at 10/9c following The Voice. The first season is rumored to have 10-13 episodes that should aid NBC as they hope at least one strike is settled by then.

At least this promises crime show fans another scripted drama on NBC to aid the time as other shows remain in limbo.
