Chicago PD reruns part of fall 2023 schedule for NBC
NBC isn’t going to be without Chicago PD and other One Chicago dramas completely in fall 2023. It’s just going to be without new episodes.
NBC originally planned for a fall like normal ones. Wednesday nights were going to be filled with new episodes of the One Chicago lineup. That isn’t going to be the case anymore, though. The writers strike and now the actors strike have put all production on hold.
While some shows were able to get some episodes in, such as Quantum Leap, most of the scripted shows are put on hold until 2024. That includes new episodes of Chicago PD. That doesn’t mean NBC wants to be without the show completely.
Chicago PD reruns coming in fall 2023
NBC has released its revised fall 2023 schedule, according to TVLine. Wednesdays will start with One Chicago reruns. It’s not clear which show or episode will air each week, and the reruns will only take up one hour: the first hour of the night.
New episodes of Quantum Leap and Magnum PI will then follow. This is a little short-sighted and weird. NBC would be better kicking off the night with either Quantum Leap or Magnum PI and then run reruns of the One Chicago lineup. Magnum PI fans have seen how random reruns affect the viewership when the series airs on Sunday nights. You would have thought NBC would have learned its lesson from that.
Wednesdays aren’t the only night starting with reruns. Thursdays will start with a rerun of a Law & Order show before going into Transplant and Dateline.
It’s certainly going to be an odd fall. However, it’s clear that NBC is planning for the scripted shows to return as soon as possible. Otherwise, why wouldn’t it pull some of its Peacock originals to get a linear outing? We’d love to see Poker Face air linearly.
Chicago PD will be part of the One Chicago reruns starting on Wednesday, Oct. 4 on NBC.
