Just ahead of the SAG-AFTRA strike, we learned School Spirits Season 2 would officially happen. When will production on the season start?

Peyton List will return as Maddie, the girl who was killed and had to figure out who her murderer was as a spirit. Well, that first season certainly took us on some wild twists and turns, and the ending made it clear that we would need a second season.

The good news is the show was renewed. The bad news is the series is now stuck in limbo due to the strike action. However, it looks like there was already a plan as the renewal came during the WGA strike was ongoing.

School Spirits Season 2 production starts next year

When The Hollywood Reporter announced the renewal, it came with a year for when production is slated to start. We were never expecting production to start this year. It will start in 2024.

This will give the writers and actors time to negotiate fair deals with the studios. Talks haven’t been happening for a while, but with both writers and actors striking together, the studios will need to start offering some sort of fair deal, which involves residuals and the use of AI.

Production not starting until 2024 was likely due to the writers strike going on at the time. However, it could have also factored in the actors strike. SAG-AFTRA and the studios were negotiating at the time the renewal came in, but realistically, we all knew a strike was going to happen. Those developing the show would have known it was going to happen. Rather than try to push for a 2023 production and then have to delay everything, it made more sense to decide that nothing could start until 2024.
