The Rookie Season 6 is not coming to ABC in August 2023

It’s going to be a very long summer. We won’t get to see The Rookie Season 6 in August 2023, and it’s not arriving at all this year.

To be honest, not seeing The Rookie‘s new season in August is nothing strange. The summer months are when the shows start filming again to allow for fall premieres. We wouldn’t usually expect to see a big show on a broadcast network to return until the fall.

That being said, we’re not even seeing any filming this August. Production has come to a complete halt, and we won’t get to see the cop dramedy until 2024.

When will The Rookie Season 6 premiere on ABC?

ABC made it clear back in May that it wouldn’t have any scripted shows on its fall lineup. The writers strike had just started, and ABC had a feeling that this was going to be a long one. Instead of trying to bring back shows, the network opted for a lineup full of unscripted programming. All scripted shows were held for 2024.

The earliest we’ll get to see The Rookie Season 6 is in January 2024. There is no guarantee of that just yet. Not only are the writers on strike, but the actors have joined them. All of Hollywood has shut down, and it is going to have a knock-on effect for all studios very soon. The broadcast networks are going to be hit before streaming platforms and movie studios.

There is time for a deal to be made to allow for shows to return in January 2024. Under normal circumstances, we see writers start work in June for filming to begin in July. This allows for a late September start. With that in mind, to bring an early January start, we’d need production to start up in late October. That means writers need to be at work in September. Will that happen? Time will tell.
