Magnum PI Season 5B is not coming to NBC in August 2023

As much as we think the summer would suit a show like Magnum PI Season 5B, we knew a release right now wouldn’t work. When can we expect the episodes?

We would more than love to see the final 10 episodes of Magnum PI already. Being set in Hawaii with all the sun in each episode, it seems like the perfect time to year to bring it. However, this is a fairly big show for broadcast networks, and it doesn’t make sense to release them in the summer months.

We don’t see shows like this premiere in August. We usually have to wait until September at the earliest. What’s the case for this CBS-turned-NBC series?

When will Magnum PI Season 5B premiere on NBC?

There was initially some bad news. The season wasn’t set to air until 2024. However, plans had to change when the actors joined the writers on strike. Production of all the big shows shut down, and there was no way that NBC could get everything it wanted back in the fall.

So, Magnum PI was one of the shows pulled forward from the midseason to the fall. It wasn’t the only one. Transplant Season 3 will also now premiere in the fall.

NBC has even set the date. We won’t get to see the return in September, but this is likely strategic with the number of episodes available. Instead, the show will return on Wednesday, Oct. 4. It will follow reruns of One Chicago, which is certainly questionable but we’ll roll with it to see how things go.

There is some bad news about the show, though. Magnum PI Season 6 is definitely not happening. The contract options came up as the negotiations with SAG-AFTRA were set to come to an end and actors were potentially going on strike. NBC didn’t want to risk too many delays so decided not to renew the show despite initially showing interest in it.
