Prime Video is about to unveil Shelter, a new series based on the novel by acclaimed crime writer Harlan Coben. But just what is this series about, and why should crime fans check it out? Find out here!

Published in 2011, Shelter is the first book in a YA series by Harlan Coben. It focuses on Mickey Bolitar, the nephew of Coben’s popular protagonist Myron Bolitar. Having just lost his father, Mickey moves to stay with relatives in the small suburban town of Kasselton, New Jersey. He soon befriends socially awkward but brilliant Spoon and sarcastic goth Ema.

When a fellow classmate vanishes, Mickey takes it upon himself to investigate with Spoon and Ema’s aid. But as they dig deeper into the case, they realize the town has been covering up a long history of disappearances and a web of lies that can endanger them all.

"Based on the bestselling series by Harlan Coben, Shelter follows the story of Mickey Bolitar after the death of his father leads him to start a new life in suburban New Jersey. When another new student disappears, Mickey finds himself tangled in a web of secrets. With the help of two new friends, Spoon and Ema, they reveal a dark underground that may hold the answers to decades of disappearances."

Who stars in Shelter?

After years of attempts, the series is finally coming to life, and interesting how it is hitting TV before one on Myron. Coben himself is a showrunner and executive producer with Allen MacDonald and Patricia Cardoso. On top of that, Coben wrote the first episodes.

The series has some unknowns in the three leads, but Constance Zimmer is Mickey’s aunt, and Tovah Feldsuh is the mysterious Bat Lady.

  • Jaden Michael as Mickey Bolitar
  • Constance Zimmer as Shira Bolitar
  • Abby Corrigan as Ema Winslow
  • Sage Linder as Rachel Caldwell
  • Adrian Greensmith as Arthur “Spoon” Spindell
  • Samantha Bugliaro as Ashley Kent
  • Tovah Feldshuh as Bat Lady
  • Brian Altemus as Troy
  • Dustin Charles as Arthur Spindell Sr.

When does Shelter premiere?

The series premieres on Prime Video on Friday, Aug. 18, with the first three episodes. New episodes then drop every Friday.

With its mix of thrills, a sharp cast, and Coben himself adapting his own work, this should be a great new crime thriller to spark up Prime Video.
