Is Walker Independence canceled? (Will Season 2 happen?)

As the summer goes on longer than normal, we look at the shows returning in 2024. Will Walker Independence be one of the returning shows?

Eyes are on the return of our favorite TV shows. Something that became a delight throughout the 2022–2023 season was Walker Independence, the prequel spin-off to the Jared Padalecki-starrer Walker.

With the strike action in the industry still going on, eyes are on whether some shows will even be back. Could it open the door for others to return? What about this spin-off prequel? Will we get to see Walker Independence Season 2?

Walker Independence Season 2 is not happening at The CW

There was some bad news earlier in 2023. The CW opted not to renew the prequel series. It did renew the main series, Walker, though.

When Nextstar took over The CW, we were made clear that not everything would be renewed. In fact, only a handful of shows were set to be renewed, and we did end up with just four of the current slate making it through. All freshman shows were canceled, despite a couple of them being pretty good for the network.

The hiatus isn’t going to change that. The CW prepared for the strike action by acquiring content from international locations. Only All American was set to return in the fall with everything else coming back in the midseason, so the need to push All American to the midseason hasn’t changed too much.

Sadly, the show wasn’t saved by another network. That was always going to be a tricky fight for a CW series. The ratings are already on the low side, and being saved by a network doesn’t always see an uptick in the ratings internationally.
